Are you one of the innovative entrepreneurs who is setting up the new business in a coworking zone? Well, having an office in a shared office space is absolutely a brilliant idea until and unless you are an annoying and irritating person for the coworkers.
Co-working spaces allow people to enjoy certain liberties such as coming into work at their preferred hour. This does not mean, however, that there are no unwritten social rules in a co-working space.
For people who are unfamiliar with co-working spaces, here’s an infographic showing the important do’s and don’ts to be aware of when working in a shared space:
Take permission: You might be the boss of your company, but you are not the only boss in that area. To cowork ideally, you need to take permission for every trivial thing that you want to do so that your coworkers do not feel offended.
For example, if you are thinking about listening to music, then ask whether you can put it on or not. If you cannot put the volume to full blast, you can always take earphones.
Be confined to your desk space: Always remember that the office space is not yours only. Therefore, it is absolutely not cool to keep things spread out onto the others’ tables and using up their spaces as well. There is something called personal space etiquette, and it is always a good thing to stick to it.
Be neat and clean about your coworking space: You might think that unless you are invading other spaces, it is ok to keep your desk messy. But think about how you would feel if you invite any client to your office space and then he or she notices that your coworker’s desk is disgusting to even look at? Of course, you would lose the impression, isn’t it? So make sure that this does not happen and be absolutely spic and span.
Socialize well with others: Just because you are burdened with work does not mean that you would not even say hello to your coworkers. A passing smile or a wave of hand will never hurt- instead, it will give you a positive Vibe and will make your day.
Be compassionate: Bad days can happen to anybody, including your coworkers. You need to be extremely accommodating towards your coworkers so that even if you are having a bad day at work, you can at least cheer them up. Remember, you will have bad days too. And it is the community in the shared office spaces that give you the ultimate moral support.
Do not talk or play music loudly
Indifferent of how your day is going it is never a good option to talk loudly or put on the music at full blast. Like you do others have deadlines to stick to as well and doing so might hamper their work.
Do not take any personal calls while you are in the shared office space
Trust us, no one wants to know about your problems, and when you are talking at your desk in your contact, then people tend to be annoyed very easily. All you have to do is to walk away whenever you are getting a personal call, thereby saving others time.
Do not go for personal grooming on the floor
Indifferent of how good or bad you look it is never a good option. It is always a better option to get all your grooming done in the washroom instead of doing in front of others.
Do not leave your eatables after consuming
No one wants to see the remnants of what you have eaten in the common eating area. If you do not abide by the basic etiquettes, then you will have a hard time gaining the support of your coworkers.
The bottom-line: be considerate and respectful of the people you are sharing your space with. People rent space in a co-working place to avoid the distractions of home or cafes and be productive – so everyone should help each other in that sense. Now that you know about the various do’s and don’ts that you should do in the co-working spaces, just make sure that you follow the rules and you are good to go.
